It’s the bhajana-kutir (meditation hut) of Srila Haridasa Thakura, a renowned devotee of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who chanted 300,000 names of Krishna daily under this tree. Located behind the house of Kashi Mishra (Radha Kanta Matha), about 800 m from the Jagannath Temple. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu planted a bakula twig, traditionally used as a toothbrush for Lord Jagannath, to provide shade for Haridasa Thakura. It miraculously grew into a lush, sacred tree.
11. Indradyumna Sarovar
A large holy pond (about 4–5 acres), part of Puri’s Pancha Tirtha—essential for pilgrims completing their spiritual journey in Puri. Named after King Indradyumna, famed in the Mahabharata, who is said to have performed thousands of Ashvamedha yajnas and gifted countless cows, whose hoof prints formed this pond. Scripture (Skanda Purana) praises it as one of the “best of tirthas”. Devotees bathe here to purify sins and gain spiritual merit; the belief holds that bathing here grants one access to Indraloka and ancestors are liberated up to 21 generations via pind-daan ceremonies. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used its water to ritually cleanse the Gundicha Temple before the Rath Yatra and also indulged in joyful water pastimes with His associates here.
12. Bedi Hanuman
A small sea-side shrine located on Chakra Tirtha Road, approximately 1.5 km from Puri Railway Station and 3–3.5 km from Jagannath Temple, near the beach. Called Bedi Hanuman (“Chained Hanuman”) because the deity’s hands and feet are bound by chains (“bedi”). Also known as Daria Mahavir (“Sea Warrior”) since Hanuman was entrusted to guard Puri from the sea’s fury. According to legend, Lord Jagannath appointed Hanuman to protect against encroaching sea waters. When Hanuman once left for Ayodhya secretly, seawater reached Puri. As punishment and to ensure vigilance, Hanuman was tied with chains and commanded to stay put—hence the name Bedi Hanuman.
13. Gambhira
Gambhira, also called Gauri Vihar or Radha Kanta Matha, is located in Balisahi on Chakra Tirtha Road, southeast of the Jagannath Temple (1 km). Known as the residence of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu during his 12-year stay in Puri after taking sannyasa. The site is now maintained as an ashrama, with temples and relics, and is about 1.8 km from Puri railway station. Originally the home of Kasi Mishra, a learned brahmana and Rajguru, who donated his house for Mahaprabhu’s residence. Inside the Gambhira room, known for its spiritual atmosphere, are preserved items: Kamandalu, paduka, quilt of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
14. Sakshi Gopal Temple
Located in Sakhigopal town, about 20 km north of Puri on the Puri–Bhubaneswar highway; roughly 1.5 km from Puri railway station and 2.7 km from the bus stand. It’s a form of Vishnu temple worshipped by Sabar Kings. Puri to Nilamadhaba temple in Kantilo Nayagarh district on the bank of Mahanadi river, a distance of 107 km takes 2-2:30 hrs on the road. Alternatively one can visit by train, nearest railway station Khurda Road Junction and there to Kantilo by taxi 63 km takes around 1 hour.
